Back in Kindergarten

Class was fine today, we skipped over some things today, so Cinthia went over Peruvian food items at the end, I think it was cause she ran out of stuff to teach? I don't know. Anyways, during our class today, Kevin came by and told us that Isabel, our translator for the week at Clinica Madre de Cristo, had a migraine so she wouldn't be able to translate today. He asked if we were still interested in going to the clinic, and we said we would be fine without her. However, when it came time for Eddy to pick us up, he never showed up. We don't know what happened. JL was feeling a little under the weather and I wasn't all too excited by the wonderful lack-of experiences we have seen at the Clinic, so we decided not to contact Eddy.

While waiting for Eddy, I took a few pictures of the house that we are living in. I will take some more another day.

Front of the house. You could actually park a car in this area

Living room

Dining table that has aphid like bugs (but not really aphids) all over it (Yes it does get in our food if we don't eat fast). These bugs are everywhere in Peru. Extra protein I suppose. I actually didn't notice it at first, but MK pointed it out one day and my life was forever changed... hahaha

Found this shell on the front porch. It is painted by one of Mama Rosa's daughters, Susan. Susan knows a bit of English, so that is quite helpful at times. I would like to paint a shell like so as well.

Lunch for today. Peruvian Pesto with some meat. (SOOO good, I may or may not have eaten the whole thing.... hehehe) Also picture is asparagus soup (their soups all all quite salty, but but delicious) and Chicha morada which is a drink made from purple corn. It is not too sweet, I actually like it.

Since we are going to volunteer at the orphanage tomorrow and are teaching english, Joy and I spent the extra time we had preparing materials. Coloring is SOOO time intensive! I don't know how I ever passed kindergarten. My parents may have bribed my teacher or something.

Here is some of the stuff I prepped. Oue host family probably thought we were immature, since we were coloring - with snacks, of course =)

Here is a fruit MK bought. We have no clue what it is, but it looks like a giant bean and it has the texture of cotton and is a bit sweet. They have very interesting fruits in the country, and I am convinced some fruits are grown solely for the purpose of making juice. Literally when you go to the fruit store and you ask what a particular fruit is, sometimes the answer is "para jugo" which means, "for juice." In Latin America, they make fresh fruit juices by blending up fruit, adding water and simple syrup (which I believe is just sugar and water cooked until it is syrupy... I don't really know, but that's what I think it is.

Did you want to eat some cotton too?
